In this book the actual building of a wagon is followed. An entirely new wagon is produced from scratch. The wagon built is a farm/chuck wagon. The farm wagon is built. The conversion into a covered wagon is shown. Then all the chuck wagon accessories are built and added to the wagon. The difficulties encountered while building the wagon are addressed as best as possible, not left out or passed over. The wagon produced for this book is a full sized wagon with 44" wheels in front with 52" wheels in the back. A fully ironed running gear, complete with brake system. It is shown and explained how to build a tongue and groove wagon box or a double box. How to build a new box to match the running gear it will go to. The building and fitting of wagon tongues (poles). How to make every part of a farm wagon or chuck wagon is in this book, wood and iron, even the lazy back seat. All this is shown with great detail within 557 pages. Included in the 557 pages are 211 color photos and 278 detail drawings within the text. (Spiral Bound-8 1/2"X11") There has been no other book like this ever written about building wagons. This is the most helpful book for farm or chuck wagon restoration available. The wheelwright section for wood hub wagon wheels in the book is the most complete and informative there is. Including design and lay out of hubs and how to build them. Read more...

This econometric study covers the world outlook for boxes and racks for mounting on manual unloading and dump farm wagons and trailer gears across more than 200 countries. For each year reported, estimates are given for the latent demand, or potential industry earnings (P.I.E.), for the country in question (in millions of U.S. dollars), the percent share the country is of the region and of the globe. These comparative benchmarks allow the reader to quickly gauge a country vis-à-vis others. Using econometric models which project fundamental economic dynamics within each country and across countries, latent demand estimates are created. This report does not discuss the specific players in the market serving the latent demand, nor specific details at the product level. The study also does not consider short-term cyclicalities that might affect realized sales. The study, therefore, is strategic in nature, taking an aggregate and long-run view, irrespective of the players or products involved. This study does not report actual sales data (which are simply unavailable, in a comparable or consistent manner in virtually all of the 230 countries of the world). This study gives, however, my estimates for the worldwide latent demand, or the P.I.E., for boxes and racks for mounting on manual unloading and dump farm wagons and trailer gears. It also shows how the P.I.E. is divided across the world's regional and national markets. For each country, I also show my estimates of how the P.I.E. grows over time (positive or negative growth). In order to make these estimates, a multi-stage methodology was employed that is often taught in courses on international strategic planning at graduate schools of business. Read more...

Tractors, combines and cars don't mix well on roads Now that the fall harvest season is underway, slow moving farm tractors, combines, implements of husbandry (wagons, trailers) and other equipment not only traverse farm fields, but also will be on local and sometimes narrow roads. New owners for farm next to Saratoga Battlefield The redcoats built a bridge of boats near Wright's land and used the span to get men, wagons and supplies across the river, he said. Wright's riverfront parcel was "definitely hopping with spies and scouts and foragers," Schnitzer said. |
There is a special breed of horse people — from hard-working ranch folk to well-to-do fanciers — who travel the dirt roads of Old Florida under live oaks dripping with Spanish moss. In the equestrian sphere, they're called "drivers" rather than riders, guiding a fleet that includes anything with two or four wheels — pony carts, gypsy vans, farm wagons, buckboards, sulkies, surreys and hansom cabs.
Favoring the rural roads and forest trails throughout the Ocala area and beyond, they ride most often accompanied by no more than the clop-clop of a well-trained team and the clatter of wagon wheels, the slap of leather and the snap of a coachman's whip.
I had a wonderful trip down memory lane this week recalling summers spent at my great-grandfather’s farm for family reunions ~ the Herrells, my mother’s side of our family.
Rural Middle Tennessee farmers, the family has worked land for nearly 300 years in Raccoon Valley near West Knoxville and Oak Ridge. Beginning in the early 1930s, they would gather on the Fourth of July for a day-long celebration.
When I was a kid, it was a day I looked forward to all summer. My great-grandfather was the ruling patriarch. He was 91 when he died. A Spanish-American War veteran and father of five, he farmed that land his whole life.
